THE METHOD
I am a yoga, meditation and breathwork instructor for oncology patients and their caregivers. My method utilizes a combination of time-honored practices and research-driven tools to help my clients reclaim a sense of comfort, connection and presence.
Cancer is a complex and nonlinear experience. It tends to disrupt a person’s plans, body, relationships, and identity. It can be painful. It can be incredibly scary.
It can also be a teacher. I know this from experience.
I believe that every moment we have on this earth is meant to be experienced fully. When our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies align in gentle awareness, we open ourselves up to love—real, vulnerable, transformative love—and the potential of the now. It is my mission to hold space for this work to occur.
THE INSTRUCTOR
In 2013, at the age of 41, Kelli de la Torre’s husband was diagnosed with terminal appendix cancer. A decades-long student of yoga, meditation and breathwork, Kelli was deeply drawn to exploring the ways in which these practices could help support her husband within the context of his more traditional treatments. She sought instruction under Robert Boustany, creator of Pralaya Yoga, a research-based, therapeutic method influenced by Ashtanga, Iyengar and Forrest Yoga. As she brought new techniques home, she began to notice an improvement in her husband’s side effects and spirit.
With that awareness, their bond deepened. Though their days left together were finite, it became a time of deep connection and uncompromised love. They were able to find a semblance of normalcy amidst unforeseen circumstances—an unknown future, a weakening body. They held space for each other. They made a baby. And when her husband passed away in 2014, Kelli was equipped with a set of tools to help other people navigate their cancer journeys more smoothly.
A unique combination of yoga, meditation and breathwork, Kelli’s method is informed by her first-hand experience with cancer. Her compassionate approach and personalized instruction support patients, as well as their caregivers, throughout all seasons of the cancer experience.
